Sub It Club has so many talented, creative people dedicated to making steps towards their goals — creating, revising, and submitting work every day. We here at Sub It Club are looking forward to inspiring you to make more steps toward your goals in 2018! Claire Bartlett signed with agent Kurestin Armada in January with her YA Fantasy, OUR REALM IS THE NIGHT. It is scheduled to be released from Little, Brown Books For Young Readers in spring 2019! The daughter of a general and the daughter of a traitor team up to fly planes using illegal magic, in the first women’s regiment of an epic war.

Elizabeth Brown sold her debut picture book, DANCING THROUGH FIELDS OF COLOR, a biography of abstract painter Helen Frankenthaler to Abrams to be released spring 2019.KJC

Heather Ayris Burnell’s (yeah, that’s me!) picture book, KICK! JUMP! CHOP! THE ADVENTURES OF THE NINJABREAD MAN released from Sterling Children’s Publishing in October.

Julie Christensen signed with agent Allison Remcheck at Stimola Literary Studio in November with her YA novel, THE STRAW MAN FALLACY: Seventeen-year-old Asher was raised from birth to be a white nationalist, but when his parents are arrested, a new life with his aunt forces a reckoning that can only end with one choice—allegiance to his charismatic father or abandoning everyone he’s ever loved.

Candice Marley Conner sold her children’s poem KITCHEN CONCERT, Kitchen time with PawPaw turns into a melody of song and dance when the pots and pans get involved, to Highlights Hello in April. She also sold her picture book SASSAFRAS AND HER TEENY, TINY TAIL to MacLaren-Cochrane Publishing in September to be released in 2019. Sometimes your differences make you a hero. With her stubby, bristly tail, Sassafras is the laughingstock of the oak tree. But when danger strikes, the thing that makes her different might just save the day. She also won SCBWI Southern Breeze Writer’s Award, 2nd place for her upper middle grade eco-fairytale THE WILDNESS IN MELLIE FEYE. To break her mama’s curse, Mellie needs (what else?) true love’s kiss. She’d rather suck out scallop guts.

Abi Cushman won two awards for her as yet unpublished picture book, SNOW DAY FOR GOAT AND BADGER: the PEN New England Susan P. Bloom Discovery Award, and the Tassy Walden New Voices in Children’s Literature Award. After Goat convinces his friend Badger to go for a ride in his homemade, duct tape-secured sled, he soon learns that what’s fun for him is scary for Badger and must figure out a way to make things right.

Our inspiring Sub It Club blogger Amy Dixon‘s adorable picture book, MAURICE THE UNBEASTLY, was released by Sterling Publishing in September. Plus she sold her debut middle grade novel, ANNIE B., MADE-FOR-TV, about an exuberant 11-year-old aspiring TV commercial writer who gets shown up by her talented best friend at auditions for a web show, to Adrienne Szpyrka at Running Press Kids, for publication in Spring 2018!

Laurie J. Edwards (also writes as Rachel J. Good and Kelsey Abrams) had a lot of releases in 2017! As Rachel J. Katherine Maria signed with agent Lauren Abramo of Dystel, Goderich, and Bourret.

Mare Hagarty signed with Tanusri Prasanna of Foundry Literary + Media for her middle grade and young adult in May!

Diana Havranek signed with Jim McCarthy at Dystel, Goderich and Bourret in May with her body jumping magical realism love story, ETERNAL CUCKOO.

Christine Henderson sold her story, A SECRET CODE in which Amy worries about how her classmates will react when her deaf parents go to Open House, to Highlights for Children. It will be in the January 2018 issue!

Julie Holmes (writing as J.M. Holmes) signed with Cynthia Zigmund of Second City Publishing Services in January. They sold her mystery, MURDER IN PLANE SIGHT to Camel Press, an imprint of Coffeetown Press to be released in 2019. Stalker ex-boyfriend? Check. Dead body in plane? Check. A female aircraft mechanic must prove her innocence and unravel an aviation conspiracy before she becomes the next casualty.lucy's lab 3

Michelle Houts had two books in her LUCY’S LAB series release from Sky Pony Press! Join Lucy Marie Watkins, her friends in Room 2-C, Miss Flippo (the best second grade teacher ever), and Mr. Bones as they explore and discover the wonderful, wacky scientific world around them. Lisa Katzenberger signed with agent Natascha Morris at BookEnds Literary for her picture books in May!

Gayle C. Krause sold three books to Clear Fork/Spork Publishing. DADDY, CAN YOU SEE THE MOON? A young boy and his soldier dad share special moments by looking at the moon, but when Dad comes home a wounded warrior, his son discovers it’s the power of love that kept them connected all along to be released November 2018. ONCE UPON A TWISTED TALE, a fractured fairytale middle grade poetry collection to release in 2019. QUEST OF THE UNGNOME – Seeking a solution to his school bully problem, thirteen-year-old Al Hero makes a deal with a garden gnome, who comes to life, and is plunged into a magical, sometimes, scary world, where magic is not the Abracadabra kind on TV—it’s D-E-A-D-L-Y! to release in 2019.

Carolyn Yoder at Calkins Creek acquired our amazing Sub It Club blogger, Kirsten Larson’s debut nonfiction picture book, WOOD, WIRE, WINGS, a biography of Emma Lilian Todd, the first woman to successfully design and engineer a working airplane, to be illustrated by Tracy Subisak, for publication in Spring 2020.

Lindsay Lombar Leslie signed with agent Stephanie Fretwell-Hill of Red Fox Literary in July. She sold her meta picture book, THIS BOOK IS SPINELESS, in which the wary and unadventurous book tries to get a sense of what kind of story might be on its pages to Page Street Publishing to be released Winter 2019.

Amy Losak had two of her own and five of her late mother, Sydell Rosenberg’s haikus featured in THEY GAVE US LIFE: CELEBRATING MOTHERS, FATHERS & OTHERS IN HAIKU published by Middle Island Press.

Our super awesome Sub It Club blogger Nilah Magruder‘s award winning graphic novel M.F.K. was released by Insight Comics in September. She also has a story coming out in ALL OUT, and anthology releasing from HarlequinTEEN in February 2018 – Take a journey through time and genres and discover a past where queer figures live, love and shape the world around them. Seventeen of the best young adult authors across the queer spectrum have come together to create a collection of beautifully written diverse historical fiction for teens.

Jillian Michel signed with Nephele Tempest of The Knight Agency with her Contemporary YA in February!

Pova had three books release in 2017! Her middle grade novel, HAILEY QUEEN AND THE ALIEN: PRANKING MAKES PERFECT, the story of nine-year old prankster Hailey who feels like an alien in her own world until an alien comes into her life and shows her what it means to be human, was released from Spork. Her picture books, IF I WEREN’T WITH YOU, in which a bear cub, seeks and receives his mother’s reassurance of love and security as the two take a walk in the forest, and SARAH’S SONG, a story about a granddaughter as she comes to terms with her grandmother’s failing health and how that affects the special bond the two share through dancing and singing, were published by Clear Fork Publishing.

Rose sold her YA contemporary science fiction novel, ROAD TO EUGENCIA, where a 17 year old girl knows nothing about the parallel universe that exists alongside her universe, but they know everything about her, to Entangled Teen in March. The book is scheduled to be released on February 5th, 2018!

Debra Shumaker signed with Natascha Morris, BookEnds Literary with her picture books in July!

Angie Thomasdebut YA novel was on the New York Times Bestseller List for 43 weeks (and counting)! It’s not possible to list all the amazing things Angie has done in 2017. She toured the world, did numerous appearances, including radio and tv interviews and her book was discussed the world over. The Hate U Give movie will premiere in 2018! Angie’s second novel, ON THE COME UP, will release in May 2018. Return to the world of Garden Heights in a story about an aspiring teen rapper and what happens when you get everything you thought you wanted.

Suzanne Warr signed with signed with Peter Rubie, of FinePrint for Middle Grade in June. Her romantic suspense, STORM OF ATTRACTION (writing as Lily Black), was released by Red Adept Publishing in February. A female black belt, the Ranger who broke her heart, and a seriously scary stalker!Storm of Attraction low res

In July, Brandy Woods Snow sold her dual perspective YA contemporary romance, MEANT TO BE BROKEN, to Filles Vertes Publishing. A reluctant rule-follower breaks small-town Southern etiquette when she lands the all-star quarterback then falls in love with his black-sheep brother. The book is scheduled to be released spring 2018.

Agent, Stephanie Fretwell-Hill, sold Michael Sussman‘s picture book, DUCKWORTH, THE DIFFICULT CHILD, to Emma Ledbetter of Atheneum Books for Young Readers. It will be published Spring, 2019.
