This post is brought to you by
the one and only, Lisha Cauthen.
Today’s post is down and dirty, mostly because I’m feeling down. And dirty.
By the way, do not google “down and dirty animated gif”. If you know what’s good for you.
CATEGORY–basically, the age of the audience your manuscript is written for and whether it is fact or fiction. Categories are picture book, chapter book, early reader, middle grade, young adult, new adult, fiction, non-fiction. THERE. THAT’S IT.
GENRE–in a general sense, what the book is about. Genres are Western, Mystery, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Historical Fiction, Thriller, Horror, Romance, Urban, Contemporary, Biography, Adventure, Humor–etc, etc.
It’s easy to slip that information into your query: “WOOLLY WORMS AND THE BOYS WHO LOVE THEM is a middle grade romance, complete at 300,000 words.”
And if you’ve written a 300,000-word middle grade romance, I support you.
