sneak your social media info into your query: the email signature

How do you sneak your social media info into your query?

Hey. You peeked.

Look in your email settings and find the signature option. Once you’ve filled out this area, your signature will appear at the bottom of every email you send. Some things you might put in your signature:

  • a tagline
  • your website
  • your blog
  • twitter handle
  • pinterest (if it’s related to your career)
  • tumblr
  • google+
  • facebook (if it’s related to your career)
  • books published or scheduled to be published
  • organizations you belong to
  • newsletters you edit

Do you want to put all this stuff in your signature? Heck no! Your signature will be longer than your emails! Pick the things that will reflect the image you want to portray.

And while we’re on the subject…

You should have a professional email address. Gmail, though a free email company, is considered professional. And your address should be your name: joeshmoe@gmail.com*. If your name is already taken, then try something simple like jshmoe@gmail.com*, jjshmoe@gmail.com*, josephshmoe@gmail.com*…you get the idea.

I’m happy to have let you in on my super-nefarious method of letting agents know about my social media activities, but please. Only use this amazing power for the forces of good.

*NO SHMOES WERE HARMED IN THE FORMATION OF THIS BLOG POST. ALSO, DON’T TRY THESE EMAIL ADDRESSES, PLEASE.

    1. I’m glad, Vivian. Fun to share the little tricks I figured out–or THINK I figure out–on my own. A little payback for the scores of writers who have shared their knowledge on the intrawebs with me.
