Author and Sub It Clubber, A.C. Thomas, shares lots of great advice via her Twitter feed. Just about a month ago she told an inspiring little story. It still holds true no matter how long it’s been since she tweeted it, so today I’m going to post it here for some weekend inspiration!

If you’re an #amquerying writer or you’re still in the #amwriting phase and haven’t queried yet, gather round! Story time. (1/?)
Today marks one year since I Tweeted this and my now-agent,@byobrooks responded (2/?). https://twitter.com/acthomaswrites/status/606175459139674112 …
#askTBA Are novels that deal with sensitive current issues a no-no?
A year ago, I never thought I’d have an agent or a book deal. And a movie deal? If you told me that, I would’ve called you crazy. (3/?)
I was still in the middle of writing and revising THUG. That Tweet doesn’t even show how terrified I was of querying that MS. (4/?)
That Tweet was one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life. Hands down. It changed my life. (5/?)
What’s the point of all of this? One is don’t be afraid to take a chance. The book you’re afraid to write may be THE book. (6/?)
Also, the NEXT book may be THE book. Remember that#amwriting and #amquerying writers (7/?)
I spent YEARS writing and rewriting my MG. I still love it, other people love it, but it was okay to try something else. (8/?)
Another point? DON’T BE AFRAID TO TELL YOUR STORY. This is a big one for #ownvoices. I wrote THUG as an unapologetically black book. (9/?)
That’s one reason I was afraid to query it. I thought it was TOO black. Not to brag but apparently 13 publishers were okay with that. (10/?)
And I know, I’m probably the exception, not the rule, but#ownvoices we HAVE to keep writing, keep trying. (11/?)
All writers, KEEP WRITING, KEEP TRYING. It CAN happen. You don’t know where you will be a year from now. (12/?)
The query trenches suck, rejections suck but it literally only takes ONE yes. One. A year from now, you may be encouraging others.(13/13)
Also, remember this too #amwriting and #amquerying peeps. https://twitter.com/byobrooks/status/606177284282847233 …
@acthomaswrites For me, no subject should be off-limits in children’s books. It’s all about how you approach the subject.#askTBA

Go! Read about A.C.’s journey! And don’t forget to keep writing and querying. It only takes one yes.
