Time

Time. There’s never enough of it, especially when you’re a writer.

First and foremost, you’ve got to write.

And rewrite.

And revise.

And critique.

And revise.

Et cetera.

When you’re submitting your work, it can take time away precious writing time. But, there’s only so many hours in the day! How do you make enough time for everything?

  • Schedule – If you’re a scheduler, this can definitely work. Pencil in writing/illustrating and subbing time and stick to it. Mostly. <–Can you tell I’m not a scheduler?
  • List It – Make a prioritized list of subs to get out, perhaps in between creative times.<-I love lists. They help me remember all the places I want to sub to.
  • Make a Goal – Every month at Sub It Club we share our goals. Making a monthly set of subbing goals to work towards makes you think about what you want to get out into the world and to whom. Making a goal gives you something concrete to work towards with a deadline. Plus it can help to “say it out loud.”<–My list along with my sub goals really keep me moving, even when I’m busy, which is always, I still have what I need to do laid out for me.

While schedules, lists, and goals are great, don’t be too hard on yourself. You’re an artist after all, and you need to go with your flow of creativity. And sometimes… you just need to listen to a song.

How do you make time to submit your work? I for one, can use all the advice I can get!
